Organized as Southfield Township in 1830, Southfield was finally incorporated in 1958. Southfield is a virtual hub of Michigan-based corporations, including Guardian Alarms, Veoneer, Denso, Peterson Spring and more. Southfield is also known as the media hub of the Detroit area, with studios and broadcast facilities for several television stations including WXYZ, WJBK, WKBD, WMYD, WWJ and more.
Southfield is also one of the most diverse cities in Metro Detroit and has the third-largest population of black Michiganders in the state. The Chaldean population is also quite large in Southfield, with the largest Chaldean church located in the city.
